OEMs Approved

Preferred Sourcing has significant experience with all of the top OEMs in North America, including BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota and Hyundai.

Preferred Sourcing is one of five approved third party providers by GM to provide QSB training and conduct Controlled Shipping Level 2 (CS2) containment activities for auto suppliers in North America.

What’s Controlled Shipping?

For the past few years, Preferred Sourcing has been an approved provider for General Motors Controlled Shipping Process. Controlled Shipping is a containment and problem solving process performed at a GM supplier’s facility when the supplier ships non-conforming products that cause a disruption at a GM plant.

There are two types of Controlled Shipping:

Controlled Shipping Level 1 (CS1): A containment activity with a problem solving process that takes place at the supplier’ facility and is conducted by the supplier or, by a third party provider.

Controlled Shipping Level 2 (CS2): A containment activity with a problem solving process done at the supplier’s location that must be conducted by a third party provider authorized by GM such as Preferred Sourcing.

During a CS2 process, Preferred Sourcing associates perform a 100% inspection to find the defects that caused the disruption. Preferred Sourcing collects the data and reports it to the supplier and to GM.

A Preferred Sourcing Provider Quality Engineer (PQE) works directly with the supplier and GM Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), to ensure that the Controlled Shipping Process meets specified requirements and that an Irreversible Corrective Action is implemented to prevent any recurrences of the issue. Preferred Sourcing PQE works directly with the containment supervisors, the supplier, and GM as the point of contact throughout the containment activity. The containment continues until GM issues an official exit letter to the supplier, when specific criteria are met.

When performing a CS2 activity, Preferred Sourcing has two equally important customers: General Motors, and the GM auto parts supplier. Preferred Sourcing continues to be among the top five providers of GM CS2 activities in North America.
